Short Biography

Prof. Dr. Savas Genc




Savaş Genç is an academic born in Germany. After completing his high school education in Istanbul, he graduated from Heidelberg University, which is among the top 50 universities in the world, with degrees in political science, oriental studies, and education sciences.

Genç completed his master's studies at the same university and successfully defended his doctoral thesis with the title Magna Cum Laude at Heidelberg University.

Subsequently, Genç worked as a faculty member at Istanbul Fatih University and taught at various universities in Istanbul until 2015. During this time, he conducted measurements and analyses in collaboration with his assistant colleagues to understand how Turkey is perceived by Middle Eastern elites. Prof. Dr. Genç and his assistant team carried out the same project regularly for five years, making a significant contribution in the international arena.

As the rapporteur for Turkey in the internationally supported conflict barometer, supported by the EU, Genç also regularly provides risk and conflict analyses for German investors in Turkey. He has been involved in projects focused on the integration of Syrian immigrants into society and has drawn attention to Turkey's migration issues and mistakes made during the Syrian war at an early stage.

Invited as a guest lecturer and speaker from approximately 40 different countries, Genç returned to Heidelberg University as a professor in 2016. He taught, conducted research, and published at Heidelberg University for three years and currently serves as a professor at Mannheim.

Genç has delivered numerous conferences at prestigious institutions such as the Woodrow Wilson Center and the European Parliament and has also played an active role in the media. He is fluent in English, German, and Arabic and is a father of three children.
